Mumbai: Pardes actress Mahima Chaudhary turns a year old Wednesday. She worked as a VJ (Video Jockey) on a music channel. Later, renowned director Subhash Ghai signed her for his film Pardes. This film was released in 1997, and it proved to be a hit.
Mahima featured in films including Daag: The Fire, Dhadkan, Khiladi 420, and Baghban. She was last seen in the 2016 Bengali film Dark Chocolate. The film was based on the Sheena Bora murder case.
Mahima married businessman Bobby Mukherjee, but their marriage didn’t last long, and they parted ways. She has an eight-year-old daughter. The credit for bringing Mahima into Hindi cinema goes to director Subhash Ghai.
However, in a TV interview, she said that “she was bullied by Mr. Subhash Ghai. He even took me to court and wanted me to cancel my first show. It was quite stressful. He sent a message to all the producers that nobody should work with me! If you pick up one of the issues of Trade Guide magazine in 1998 or 1999, there was an ad that he had given which stated that if anybody wanted to work with me, that person would have to contact him. Otherwise, it would be a breach of contract. However, there was no such contract which said that I had to seek his permission.”
She added that Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, David Dhawan, and Rajkumar Santoshi were the only four people who stood by her.
