BHUBANESWAR: Hard work in the form of physical activities often takes its toll on the feet of an individual. Youngsters too have to endure pain in their feet due to the modern lifestyle. A mere pedicure is not a solution for this chronic ailment. Deep tissue care is required to keep leg muscles healthy. This has been prompting youth of the capital to try foot spa in several facilities available here.

The importance of strong feet cannot be stressed enough. Famous artist Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.” Orissa Post interacted with a few foot spa lovers, leading salon owners to delve deeper into the subject.

Foot spa is a method of detoxifying one’s body from various toxins and to restore back skin’s essential oils that goes missing with lot of walking and outdoor activity. Technically speaking, one has to dip hi feet in a pool of warm water containing essential oils and herbs. After 15 minutes of soaking, the foot is scrubbed, cleansed, massaged, cleaned and moisturised.

There are innumerable benefits in doing foot spa at regular intervals. Primarily, the blood is well-circulated which helps one to stay healthy. It also decreases stress levels, treats bowel irregularities, removes excruciating foot pain and much more.

There is a variety of Spa to choose from. Anamika Singh, a student of BJB College, said, “I am a regular client to a popular salon in Sahid Nagar. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not a luxury. Instead, it’s a necessity as I need to relax my feet at regular intervals due to my area of interest. I am a professional Odissi dancer.”

Laxmipriya Sethi, a young entrepreneur and resident of Ganga Nagar, said, “My work is quite hectic and I hardly find time to look after myself. This prompts me to go for heel peel treatment as I have a tendency of cracking my feet irrespective of the season.”

Types of  Foot Spa

Crystal spa: A popular type where real crystals clean tan and prevent dryness of the feet. Besides, there are various foaming agents with bubbles which clean and nourish the feet.  A massage with Shea butter is done to relax tired muscles.

Charcoal spa: Carbon is used in this variety. It cleanses the skin and removes dead skin of the feet. Additional carbon magnetic probe cream is applied.

Heel peel treatment: Like the name suggests, this variety is meant to treat dead and cracked skin of the heels. It’s so popular that one has to pre book a session in winter months.

Fish spa: This is a new variety of spa where one has to dip his or her feet into a bowl of water where small fishes eat up the feet’s dead skin which makes the client feel relaxed.

Parafin wax spa: The whole feet are covered with Parafin wax. After half an hour, feet are massaged with essential oils to relax tired muscles.

Famous choreographer Lubun said, “Foot spa is a necessity these days as after a hard day’s work one needs to relax his tired muscles. What better way to do it than a good cleansing, massage and care therapy?”

Anita Rath of Ashu Skin Care at Jaydev Vihar said, “The reason of popularity of foot spa is due to various relaxing techniques and massages it offers. The human body’s well-being is often depended on foot care ehich pushes many to opt for it.”
