Food licensing, registration online

Bhubaneswar: The state government Wednesday made the process of registration and licensing of food business online.
The online system, to be known as ‘Food Licensing & Registration system (FLRS)’, was launched by finance and health Minister Pradeep Kumar Amat at the Secretariat here.
Amat said the online FLRS will enable food business operators (FBOs) to apply for licence/registration by paying appropriate fees and to upload supporting documents. The system allows applicants to track the status of their applications, licence/registration status, schedule inspections and receive alerts on the status and renewals, he said.
“This will not only make the process easier and simpler for the FBOs, but also enable better monitoring, increase the work efficiency of food safety officers and also bring transparency in the system,” he said.
As per statistics, 19162 FBO (Food Business Operators) have been registered with the government and 10973 licences have been issued since 2012-13 under manual process of registration and licencing.
In order to facilitate registration and licencing, food safety & standards authority of India (FSSAI) has created a centralised online system for licence/registration of FBO to be used across the country, with the assistance of National Institute for Smart Government (NISG), Hyderabad.
All the food safety officers in the state have been trained in FLRS and have been provided with computer system and internet facility to start the online registration and licensing of FBOs, health officials said.
The food business operators can avail of the services for licensing/registration by logging onto the website: http://foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in. Alternatively, they can access www.fssai.gov.in and logon to FLRS link provided in the site, they informed.
Health secretary Pramod kumar Meherda said that this initiative will encourage FBOs to obtain food licence and Registration in digital manner and bring more and more FBOs under the fold of the Food Safety setup so as to move towards achievement of goal of wholesome, nutritious and safe food being manufactured and consumed.
Food safety commissioner RP Singh also attended the event.
