Bhubaneswar, March 30: A high-level delegation of World Food Programme (WFP) Monday met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the secretariat here and congratulated him for his government’s commitment to reducing food insecurity and improving nutritional security in the state.
Assistant executive director of WFP Manoj Juneja said by working together, the government, UN agencies and NGOs can better address the challenges of food and nutritional insecurity in the state.
The delegation visited Bhubaneswar in the morning to review WFP’s current engagements in the state and plan the areas of future interventions to make Orissa hunger-free.
During the visit the team met food supply and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Das Burma and agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy. They also discussed the impact of the pilot project for strengthening of targeted public distribution system in Rayagada district.
Juneja also talked about the policy support in the automation of transactions in the fair price shops through use of sale devices and undertaking a pilot project for enhancement of nutrition through PDS network.
