Bhubaneswar/ Kalahandi: Former Congress MLA Sibaji Majhi died at his native Danarguda village in Odisha’s Kalahandi district following a brief illness, family sources said Wednesday.
He was 55.
Majhi had been suffering from chest pain for some time and was admitted to a hospital in Bhawanipatna.
He was later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.
After being discharged, he returned to his village, where he died Tuesday night, they said.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi condoled his death.
In a post on X, Majhi said, I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former legislator of Lanjigarh, Sibaji Majhi. I convey my condolences to the grieving family and pray to Lord Sri Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul. Om Shanti.

Sibaji Majhi was the first MLA of the Lanjigarh Assembly constituency, which was newly formed ahead of the 2009 elections.
He represented the constituency from 2009 to 2014 as a Congress member.
He worked for the development and welfare of tribal communities and became the first chairman of the Special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Council in Kalahandi district.
