Former Odisha skipper Haladhar Das retires from all formats of cricket

Bhubaneswar: Former captain of the Odisha cricket team Haladhar Das announced his retirement from all formats of the game Sunday. In a terse one line letter to the Odisha Cricket Association the wicketkeeper-batsman stated about his decision to quit the game.

Haladhar Das played 47 first class games for Odisha and scored 1,835 runs at an average of 27.80 with two centuries and 10 half centuries. He picked up 140 catches behind the stumps and also stumped nine batsmen.

Haladhar Das made his Ranji Trophy debut against Services in the 2006-2007 season. In the game played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, he scored 86 in the only innings he batted and picked up five catches behind the stumps.  His last game was against Vidarbha in October 2016. However, he failed to perform and since then had been on the sidelines.

In a career often mirred by controversy, Haladhar really failed to justify the talent he showed initially in his career. It should be stated here that Haladhar Das was suspended when he was the captain of the Odisha side in 2011 for missing the mandatory team dinner and returning to the team hotel at Mohali in an ‘inebriated’ condition.  However, the it was a short-lived ban.
