Dhenkanal: A former ward member of Surapratappur village under Bhuban police limits in Dhenkanal district was beaten to death by fellow villagers Saturday after a quarrel erupted between children of both sides.
The deceased has been identified as Bijaya Guru.
According to the deceased’s brother-in-law Suresh Kumar Dehury, there was a small argument between Guru’s family and another villager’s family over a minor issue involving their children. Later, the issue took a violent turn with both the sides taking the matter to the local police outpost seeking action.
Some persons believed to be involved in the earlier issue attacked Guru Saturday morning. On being informed, a team from the outpost reached the spot and with the help of Guru’s wife, they rushed him to a nearby government hospital where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.
Registering a case, the police have launched an investigation.
