Rummy Chaddha, make-up artist, hair stylist and owner of beauty salon and spa About You, says, “To get an even-toned, great-looking skin, you need to choose the right colour of foundation, in fact how long the foundation lasts and how natural make-up looks, will depend on your foundation. A wrong shade of foundation could make you look much older, as well.” She suggests a few tips to find the perfect shade of foundation.

• Apply two to three shades of foundation on the jaw line. The correct shade should blend into your skin.
• Foundation should not change the colour of your face, but simply even out the skin tone.
• Make sure the foundation is yellow-based, pink-based foundations look like masks on most people.
• Always check the foundation in natural light. Walk to the window or doorway to check the match.
• Never shop for foundations in the evening; the colour could be misleading.
• If your skin is oily, it is advisable to buy the foundation a shade lighter than your skin tone.
• If your skin starts looking pasty or grey after the foundation is applied, choose a darker shade.
• If your face looks yellow or orange after the foundation is applied, choose a lighter shade.
