Bhadrak: A lady teacher from Karanjiadia Government High School under Basudevpur Block in Bhadrak district was put under suspension for allegedly producing a fake Bachelor of Education (BEd) certificate to get the job 18 years ago, a source said Wednesday.

The suspended teacher was identified as Rebati Jena, who was reportedly appointed in 2005 and her job was regularised in 2011.

According to the source, the matter came to fore after her educational certificates were checked based on a complaint that she had joined the service by producing forged certificates.

Basudevpur Block Education Officer (BEO) Jagabandhu Sahu said that Jena was immediately suspended and an FIR was lodged against her following the exposé.

The BEO further informed that a departmental proceeding against her has been launched.

In another similar yet unrelated incident of July this year, police had arrested a junior teacher of a government school in Odisha’s Ganjam district for allegedly forging BEd certificate to grab the job around eight years ago.

Accused Sibaram Mohanty was initially recruited as a ‘sikhya sahayak’ at Simakhai in Aska block. Later, he was transferred as a junior teacher to Government Upper Primary School in Gangapur, police had informed.

Police made the arrest after Aska BEO Samineni Giridhara inquired about the genuineness of Mohanty’s educational certificates following a direction from the District Education Officer.
