Malkangiri: The police arrested a person and seized ganja weighing 116.5 kg and Rs 6 lakh at MV-83 under Malkangiri police limits Monday, said superintendent of police Jagmohan Meena.
The police seized a vehicle along its documents, five ATM cards, PAN card and Aadhaar card from the accused, identified as Raju Baroi, 35, a resident of MV-83, in Padmagiri.
The police said, a patrolling team led by Malkangiri DSP Dilip Das was deployed at MV-83. Meanwhile, Baroi who was transporting the contraband from Padmagiri was nabbed by the police.
He was also involved in promoting ganja cultivation at Chitrakonda and Padamagiri, and had been providing assistance to the farmers to cultivate it, said the SP.
Earlier, a case (28/18) regarding ganja smuggling, was registered against Baroi with Orkel police June 21, 2018. He had also helped the farmers of Chitakonda to grow ganja and transported the contraband to the neighbouring states.
Police have registered a case (253/18) and forwarded Baroi to court Tuesday.
