Malkangiri: The narcotics bureau and the police jointly seized 1,500kg of ganja and arrested two persons at Baliela Chhak here Sunday. The two were Moogi Venkateswarlu (36) and Chanti Suresh (28).
The team intercepted a salt-laden truck and made a search. They seized from it ganja valued at Rs 3crore. It was found concealed below gunny bags containing crude salt. It was being smuggled to Nashik in Maharashtra, police said.
The ganja had been sourced from Atchytapuram in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh.
May 19, the Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police seized ganja worth Rs 4.50lakh from Jhinkiria village under Sadar police limits in Cuttack district. Two brothers, Narayan Pati and Lalat Pati, were arrested. A raid carried out on a house in the village led to seizure of ganja weighing about 94kg.
