Chhatrapur: A two day joint coastal security exercise, ‘Sagar Kavach’, began along the Ganjam coast Wednesday to strengthen security measures and prevent possible terrorist infiltration by sea.
The exercise, organised by Ganjam police, involves intensified surveillance, vehicle checks and patrolling along coastal areas and waterways under the jurisdiction of Aryapalli, Ganjam, Chhatrapur, Rambha and Chamakhandi police stations.
The Aryapalli Marine Police Station is conducting sea patrols along about 40 kilometres of coastline from Prayagi to Haripur.
Personnel from the police, Fisheries, Fire Services, Health Department and Coast Guard are participating in the exercise.
Police teams are conducting checks at key junctions and coastal locations while monitoring suspicious movements in the waterways.
Two teams, designated as the ‘Blue Team’ and ‘Red Team’, have been formed as part of the exercise.
Fishermen and coastal residents are also being sensitised to report unfamiliar persons or suspicious activities to police immediately.
District Additional SP Prabha Dhan said the exercise aims to test the preparedness, coordination and response mechanisms of agencies involved in coastal security, particularly in detecting and responding to suspected infiltration by sea or land.
Aryapalli Marine Police Station officer Bidya Bharati Nayak, Chhatrapur police station officer Sabyasachi Mall and other police personnel participated in the exercise.
