Shergad: The district collector Wednesday donned the role of a teacher and taught students of three schools and a college on the theme of cleanliness, during his visit to the block in Ganjam district.
Collector Prem Chandra Chowdhury, after his arrival at 10 am, was accorded a warm welcome by block officials and the schools and college authorities. He visited Udayapratap Science College and taught students of plus two and plus three courses while spreading the word on cleanliness.
He urged students to be competitive from this age, especially with the spread of internet and excel in education. Later, he had a discussion with the college authorities about various problems plaguing the college and directed RWSS officials to construct a compound wall around the college and install drinking water facilities.
Later, he visited Mahatma Gandhi High School, girls’ high school and model school where he similarly taught the students and gave lessons on cleanliness. During the visit he discussed with the students on the importance of having toilets at home.
He asked school headmasters to select a clean student every day during prayer classes and display his/her name on the school notice board. He also directed the school to spread awareness about cleanliness at every home in their area and inculcate the habit of proper hygiene and sanitation in every student.
He also advised them to keep the school surroundings clean. He directed rural development officials to immediately finish with the construction of a school building for the girls’ high school. PNN
