Ganjam: Four highwaymen held for robbing trader

Chikiti: Police have arrested four anti-socials for assaulting a gutkha trader and robbing him of more than Rs 4 lakh near Balarampur Square under Nuapada outpost in Ganjam district July 22.

The accused were identified as Deepak Gouda, 30, of Jagannathpur, Jitendra Pradhan of Kumarada, Nrusingha Prasad Panda of Nuapada under Nuagaon police limits; and Kalia Das, 30, of Langaldei under Digapahandi police limits. A bike, three cellphones and Rs 1 lakh were seized from them.

Police said Jitendra, also known as Jitu, has nine criminal cases, while each of the others has at least one. The case was registered after the victim, a gutkha trader from Dhabalpur, lodged a complaint. Police said the gang stopped his pickup van, assaulted him, and fled with the cash. A special team was formed to track the accused, leading to the arrests across states.
