Chhatrapur: Ganjam police district has emerged as the top performer in the state during the recently concluded Operation Garuda, a special enforcement drive carried out from August 1 to 16, officials said.
Under the directive of Superintendent of Police Subhendu Kumar Patra, the crackdown targeted illegal firearms, narcotics, illicit liquor, gambling, and absconding suspects.
The drive resulted in the arrest of 98 accused persons, seizure of 14 pistols, 63 bullets, 15 magazines, and recovery of Rs 94,710 from gambling operations. Police also confiscated 4,540.66 litres of illicit liquor, 163.64 kilograms of ganja (cannabis) and three vehicles, including cars and motorcycles.

In addition, 398 wanted persons with pending arrest warrants were apprehended during the operation. Notices were served to 176 identified troublemakers under Sections 126 and 129 of the BNS. Police also tracked down 537 antisocial and disorderly elements who had gone underground.
Officials said the comprehensive crackdown not only disrupted criminal networks but also strengthened law and order across Ganjam, making it the leading district in the state’s enforcement effort.
