Kendrapara: A 22-year-old girl of Ramchandrapur village under Patkura police station was gangraped by fellow villagers Saturday night, according to a complaint lodged by the girl’s younger brother Sunday.
The victim’s 20-year-old brother had a few days back lodged an FIR alleging some villagers had made lewd comments at his sister. The same persons came to his house Saturday night inviting him to attend a meeting organised in the village for an upcoming religious function. He apprehended that they might have invited him with an intention of attacking him after the meeting.
As a result, he refused to attend the meeting on the plea that his family members were away and his sister was alone at home. At about 10 pm, when he and his sister were taking rest in the house, 10 villagers forcibly entered the house after breaking open the gate. They ransacked the house and raped his sister. They also looted her gold ornaments before fleeing, the complaint stated.
He rescued his sister in a critical condition and admitted her to the district headquarters hospital. Acting upon the complaint, Patkura police registered a case under Sections 376 (d) and 395 of IPC, additional SP and in-charge SP of Kendrapara Ramesh Chandra Mohanty said.
Mohanty and Kendrapara sub-divisional police officer Purna Chandra Pradhan rushed to the district headquarters hospital Sunday to meet the victim girl. Police have started an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far, Mohanty said, adding nine out of the 10 accused in the case belong to the age group of 45 to 62 years. PNN
