Khurda: Police Saturday recovered the body of a girl with her throat slit on the Tikatala roadside under Begunia police limits in Khurda district. The identity of the deceased girl is yet to be ascertained.
Sources said some locals spotted the body and informed Begunia police, which along with a scientific team reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
Khurda Superintendent of Police (SP) also reached the crime scene after being informed about the brutal murder of a girl.
As per preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the girl was raped and killed somewhere else. Later, the miscreants dumped the body here alongside the road, said the police.
Irate over the incident, locals staged road blockade on the Khurda-Bolangir National Highway 57 following which vehicles remained stranded for a couple of hours on both sides of the busy NH. Later, police pacified the locals.
The body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem, while further investigation into the incident is underway, the police said.
