Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: Documentary filmmaker Biswanath Rath has come up with his new short documentary ‘Zero to Hero’, which is set to release on the occasion of World Food Day October 16. A three-minute long documentary in English, the subject that the film deals with is the changing plight of farmers of Dangarbheja village in Nabarangpur district. The district is considered as one of the poorest regions in India.
Zero to hero, a documentary made under BnR Films banner in collaboration with Dangarbheja panchayat and Govindalaya trust, is a first of its kind film based on a KBK District. The film was completed in 18 days.
“The documentary deals with inspirational stories of farmers who are changing the fate of the district. It is all about the success story of collaboration between one panchayat and a civil society organisation,” said Biswanath Rath.
The initial plan of the makers was to send it to a contest organised by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, but the documentary is now set to participate in other film festivals as well.
Talking about the project, Rath said, “When I got to know about the contest, I realised that it was a good opportunity to understand the real India. After our research, I and other researchers stumbled upon this unique story in Nandahandi, which was modeled on the ‘public private academia community partnership ’.”
The filmmaker said the above mentioned term was being specifically used by the panchayat in Nabrangapur to define what they were trying to establish.
He added: “During our research, we learnt the region at Soruguda village developed by Govindalaya appeared to be slowly changing the image of the district. Experts from OUAT and district level officers are using its advanced facilities to train local farmers and demonstrate various agriculture and horticulture related techniques. Around 200 farmers have already benefited from this initiative.”
