New Delhi, Sept 26: The government has set up a High Level 5G India 2020 Forum. Communications Minister Manoj Sinha announced the development here Tuesday.
“We want to keep pace with global technology adoption. India does not want to stay behind in 5G rollout. That is the reason we have constituted this committee,” Sinha told reporters.
“The 5G India Forum will enhance GDP, create employment and digitise the economy,” he added. The government is trying to create a corpus of Rs500 crore for 5G rollout. The High Level 5G Forum will have on board three secretaries from the Department of Telecommunications, IT and Electronics and Science and Technologies Ministries.
The term of reference of the forum are vision mission and goals for the 5G India 2020; evaluate, approve roadmaps and action plans for 5G 2020; early deployment of 5G in India and a globally competitive product development and manufacturing ecosystem targeting 50 per cent of India market and 10 per cent of global market over next five to seven years.
The forum will complement the ecosystem by focused actions in research ecosystem, regulatory framework and inclusive business environment.
It will constitute a number of Steering Committees in different domains.
Sinha further said: “5G will provide better broadband connection.”
Talking about the call drop issue, the minister said the Telecom Secretary will take stock of the matter every 15 days.
Airtel deploys 5G tech
New Delhi: Bharti Airtel Tuesday announced the deployment of India’s first state-of-the-art Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology, a key enabler for 5G networks. Airtel is starting with the first round of deployment in Bengaluru and Kolkata and will expand to other parts of the country soon, a company statement said. Deployed as part of Airtel’s ongoing network transformation programme, Project Leap, the Massive MIMO technology will expand existing network capacity by 5 to 7 times using the existing spectrum, thereby improving spectral efficiency. “Customers will now be able to experience two to three times superfast speeds on the existing 4G network. Data speeds will now also be seamless, offering enhanced user experience even indoors, in crowded places and high rise buildings,” the statement said.
