Bhubaneswar, April 10: The state government, with a vision to turn all ‘kachha’ houses into ‘pucca’ in the coming years, has set a target of constructing five lakh houses in the 2015-16 fiscal.
In a review meeting at the Secretariat, panchayati raj minister Arun Kumar Sahu Friday asked officials to ensure successful implementation of various schemes such as Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana and Indira Awas Yojana to meet the target.
As many as 3.49 lakh houses were constructed in the 2014-15 fiscal, and taking into account the rate of progress, the state government decided to set itself a bigger target.
Sources said an expenditure provision of Rs 3,200 crore has been made for construction of the five lakh houses this fiscal.
The law minister asked district-level officials to give work orders for 2015-16 by the last week of April. He also asked officials to take adequate steps to ensure completion of work by the end of this fiscal. “Officials have been asked to fix a district-level target for expediting work of constructing these houses,” Sahu said.
District collectors have been authorised to transfer funds from one block to another, on the basis of requirement to expedite the project work.
“Adequate steps will be taken to sort out the difficulties to avoid delay in implementing BPGY and IAY,” Sahu said. “New guidelines are being adopted for completion of pending works of previous years in time,” he added.
On the other hand, it was decided that special measures such as videography of Palli Sabha will be taken to bring more transparency in selection of beneficiaries for these houses.
