Cuttack: The state government will rope in a US-based institute to fight chronic kidney-related ailments in Badamba and Narasinghpur blocks of the district.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), a leading national public health institute of the United States, will provide technical assistance to the state government to find out the factors responsible for the spread of kidney diseases in the areas. The government has recently held discussions in this regard with the additional director of CDCP Rupali Ray in New Delhi.
A high-level meeting was also held at the Secretariat in Bhubaneswar Friday in the presence of health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, the department secretary Arti Ahuja, Cuttack collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra, director of medical education and training (DMET) Prakash Mohapatra and several nephrologists. A blueprint was also prepared at the meeting to deal with the renal ailments plaguing the twin blocks.
Sources said the areas and affected persons will be kept under continuous surveillance with the technical support from the American institute. A team of nephrologists will visit door to door to find out the root of the disease.
Sources said kidney diseases have claimed about 780 lives in Badamba and Narasinghpur areas between 2007 and 2016. The disease is alarming in 50 to 60 villages where about 35 per cent of the total population is suffering from the disease.
Currently, the district administration is providing free treatment and medicines to the affected people. They are being provided dialysis support at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
