Bhubaneswar, August 13: A full dress rehearsal for the state-level Independence Day parade was held here Saturday. Officers including DGP KB Singh, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, and other senior government officials participated in the event.
Marching contingents of police brass bands, schoolchildren, college students, NCC cadets, and NSS volunteers besides contingents of skaters and ‘daredevils’ on motorbikes took part in the parade.
The motorbike ‘daredevils’ from Maharishi College and horse riders were the highlight of the parade. The group of skaters who skated passed holding the Tricolour aloft, formed the cynosure of proceedings.
The participants, too, were excited to give their best at the parade. “It is an act of love and respect for our nation,” Satyaprakash Jena, an NCC cadet from Unit-IX high school, described the march-past.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is to unfurl the national flag ahead of the Independence Day march-past. Police forces, quick reaction teams, bomb detection squads and sniffer dogs are to be deployed at the parade venue on August 15.
Police said about 60 high frequency closed-circuit television cameras have been installed along Mahatma Gandhi Marg and sniffer dogs and bomb detection squads will also deployed around the venue.
Patrolling has also been intensified in commercial areas and vehicles moving from and to the airport are being checked. Security has also been tightened at the railway station and bus terminals, the police said.
