Dasamantapur: Frustrated over the regular absence of teachers, guardians Thursday locked the upper primacy school of Olonaguda under Paiko Fulbeda panchayat in this block of Koraput district.
The school, established in 1981, has 33 students on its rolls. However, only two lady teachers have been appointed to teach the students. But they turn up at the school at their will and are seen only twice in a week, alleged sarpanch Hiramani Gadwa. While many students are yet to be given uniforms, food served under the mid-day meal programme is of substandard quality, added Gadwa.
The guardians and the school managing committee members approached the district education officer in the first week of September to get their concerns addressed but in vain.
The guardians waited for the teachers for two hours Thursday morning. Later, they locked the classrooms as the teachers didn’t turn up.
“Our children study in Class V but they cannot recognise the Odia alphabets,” said one of the guardians.
The cluster resources centre coordinator (CRCC) encourages the teachers to neglect in teaching. The students and the guardians would stage a sit-in at the office of block education officer September 24 unless the teachers are shunted, warned the locals.
CRCC Kailash Chandra Pradhan said he would apprise the Collector of the situation.
