Balasore: The Balasore District police in a bid to curb the menace of theft or dacoity in the jewellery shops and establishments have issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines for the owners.
Balasore Superintendent of Police Sagarika Nath held discussions with the shop owners Friday in presence of the DIG (Eastern Range) Satyajit Nayak.
The SP besides sharing a helpline number to the shop owners and managers through which they can share any suspicious information, urged them to install cloud storage-based CCTV systems which will act as force multipliers for the police. She also asked the jewellery shop owners for mandatory character verification of all individuals employed in their shops. The SP also suggested introduction of a register where any individual or customer entering the shop would fill in their Name, ID proof and phone number. The shop owners and managers were urged to remain alert and cautious of individuals entering their establishments posing as customers.
The district police came on their toes after a plan to commit dacoity targeting jewellery shops was foiled recently by the special squad of Balasore Police.
“Two miscreants who came to Balasore for advance reconnaissance supposedly to commit loot of jewellery shops were apprehended and handed over to Ranchi Police where they have previous antecedents. Evidence of recce of one renowned jewellery shop was found on their mobile phone. This incident prompted police to alert the jewellery shop owners and issue safety advisories for them,” Nath said.
