Koraput: A Senior Finance Manager of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is on the run after allegedly misappropriating crores of rupees through fake vouchers, the police said Monday.
He has been identified as Bhaben Maiti. A case was registered against him and a manhunt is on to nab him.
Maiti was in-charge of depositing and withdrawing the company’s money in bank. However, it was recently found that he had withdrawn a huge amount by depositing fake vouchers over last few years.
The matter came to the fore during an audit after which Maiti was asked to produce vouchers and other documents for the amounts withdrawn by him. But he failed to produce them.
Acting on the direction of HAL Executive Director, the audit team and the internal vigilance team detained Maiti for questioning Saturday night. He was then directed to deposit all documents on monetary transactions in HAL office by Sunday morning.
But Maiti instead of coming to office went absconding. After this the HAL authorities filed an FIR against him with Sunabeda police.
Later, senior HAL officials and vigilance jointly raided Maiti’s quarters and found fragments of burnt currency notes estimated at Rs 1.67 lakh, land documents and a luxury car worth Rs 18 lakh, said Sunabeda SDPO Niranjan Behera.
On the basis of the complaint, a case (152/18) has been registered. Sunabeda IIC Mamata Panigrahi has been handed over charge of the investigation, SDPO Behera said.
