Jeypore: Jeypore town police arrested hardened criminal S K Akhtaar after an exchange of fire near at Irrigation Colony in the wee hours of Friday.
The police seized two pistols, two live cartridges and one mobile phone from Akhtaar. His two accomplices however, managed to escape arrest.
Police sources say a team of town police was on a night patrolling late Thursday night. Meanwhile they got the lead at Akhtaar and his associates’ loitering suspiciously near Irrigation Colony.
Without missing any moment, the police moved to the spot and conducted a raid. Seeing the police, the criminals opened two rounds of ammunition at them. The police in retaliation fired three rounds bringing Akhtaar to bay.
Police sources also said that the trio was on a mission of carrying out a big robbery or kidnapping.
Further investigation is on, they added.
