Cuttack, May 17: Haryana thrashed Jharkhand 6-0 in their second quarterfinal league match of Group-I to enter the semifinals of the National Sub-Junior Women’s Football Championship at the Barabati Stadium here, Sunday.
The match was a lop-sided affair with Haryana calling all the shots right from the start. Renu (25th, 54th) and Santosh (37th, 52nd) scored a brace each, while the remaining goals were scored by Ravina (36th) and Anjali (61st).
In the second match of the same group, Maharashtra scraped past mighty Manipur 2-1. Manipur played well with a massive share of the ball possession, but Maharashtra were the more opportunistic side as they converted their chances. TH Babysana Devi opened the account for Manipur as early as the 10th minute. Bhagyashree Dalvi restored parity for Maharashtra in the 29th minute and the scoreline read 1-1 till the lemon break.
After the change of ends, Maharashtra promptly doubled the lead just one minute into the game. Manipur tried desperately to restore parity, but a resolute opposition defence foiled their efforts. With this loss, Manipur virtually ruled themselves out of the semifinal contention.
