Cuttack, May 22: Haryana and Mizoram will meet in the final of the Sub-Junior National Women’s football championship after winning their respective semifinals in contrasting styles at the Barabati Stadium here Friday. The final comes off Sunday.
In the first semifinal, Haryana thrashed Bihar 4-0 riding on a hat-trick by Renu who scored the 65th, 69th and 77th minutes respectively. Sasmita (46th) was the other goal scorer.
The first half was a keenly-contested affair with both sides failing to break the deadlock. However, in the second session, the Bihar eves felt the effects of the heat and humidity and lost their way to concede four goals.
The second semifinal was a nail-biting affair in which Mizoram scraped past Jharkhand 2-1. O Lalminghchhunpull opened the account for Mizoram in the eighth minute. PC Lalduhtlanione doubled the advantage in the 38th minute with a solo effort. Priyanka Kacchap got one back for Jharkhand in the 45th minute. In the second session, however, the match became a scrappy affair with both sides playing aimless football.
