Cuttack, Jan 15: The Orissa High Court Thursday granted interim bail to Amulya Sahu, a Plus III final year student of Stewart Science College, undergoing imprisonment for killing his classmate Abinash Mohanty over a triangular love affair.
The court’s order came in response to a bail plea moved by Amulya. Justice Raghubir Das allowed the accused to appear for examinations scheduled to commence February 22 and continue till March 23.
Amulya had drowned Pabitra Mohan Mohanty’s son Abinash of Rajendra Nagar under Madhupatna police limits to death in river Mahanadi November 16. Abinash had an affair with a girl whom Amulya also loved one-sided for which the latter hatched a plot to eliminate the former.
On the fateful day, Amulya had invited Abinash to Gadagadia Ghat where he drowned Abinash. Police fished out the body of Abinash from the river the next day. Cantonment police had initially registered an unnatural death case. Based on post-mortem report, police registered a murder case in this connection and arrested Amulya.
Amulya moved High Court urging it to allow him to take examination in the jail after his bail plea was rejected by the lower court.
The HC had earlier directed the jail authorities and police to allow the accused to fill up the form for the examinations.
