HC bench: JMM warns of Mayurbhanj bandh

Baripada: Reiterating its demand for a high court bench in Baripada, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has warned of a Mayurbhanj bandh whenever Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will visit the district.

The Chief Minister has sent missives to the Centre several times for the establishment of high court benches in western and southern Odisha, but he has adopted a dilly-dallying policy over the same demand for Baripada, the JMM alleged.

JMM said that it has long been demanding a high court bench in Baripada. The party argued that as per agreement for merger of erstwhile Mayurbhanj princely estate with Odisha, the priority of high court bench should be given to this district, but the state government has given a short shrift to this district.

Phagu Hansda, president of the JMM district unit, said the party workers will take to the streets in the coming days over the high court bench issue.
