Apple is not known to cut corners on quality to sell phones at a lower price bracket. Besides, its premium market positioning doesn’t allow the company to compete in lower segments.
Most business analysts suggest the company shouldn’t bring a product at a lower price point that might dilute the aspirational value attached with the brand. That said, stagnating growth in developed markets is forcing the company to look at developing markets to boost sales. Prices of iPhones, however, are beyond the reach of most users in these markets that leave a wide gap for other companies to exploit.
Apple had earlier launched the not-so-successful iPhone SE to answer this issue. However, the phone didn’t get a successor. Reports, however, suggest that the company is working on a new phone that is likely to be the successor of iPhone SE.

According to Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, the newer iPhone will be more affordable than the current models: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. It is likely to fall slightly under $500 bracket.
The yet to be named iPhone is widely being called iPhone SE2 on social media. It is expected to look pretty much like the iPhone 8 that was launched in 2017, but will be powered by the new A13 Bionic chip that is found in the 2019 iPhone models.
Even though Apple officially doesn’t reveal the amount of RAM in its phones, several reports suggest that iPhone SE2 will have 3GB RAM.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone SE2 by second quarter of 2020.
This phone borrows its looks and form factor from iPhone 8. It is expected to have a 4.7-inch display.
Reports suggest that it won’t have FaceID but will be secured by TouchID. This means that a Home button on the iPhone SE2 can be expected.
Earlier this year, Nikkei had first reported rumours of an affordable iPhone.
