Mumbai: Captain of the Indian cricket team Virat Kohli, may have all the answers to what bowlers throw at him, be it pace or spin. Virat Kohli works tirelessly at the nets for hours so that he can come good for India when it matters the most. From a young Delhi cricketer during his U-19 days, Virat Kohli has today become one of the best batmen in the world. He is also one of the fittest sportspersons in India.
The Indian skipper has recently revealed that he was never very studious or ‘most intelligent’ in his school days, but always managed to grasp things quickly. However, one subject that always kept Kohli on his toes during was mathematics. By his own admission, Kohli has never worked hard even for cricket, as he did to pass in maths in his class 10 exams.
“So in math we used to have exams and the maximum marks we could get in 100, right. I used to get 3, I was that good. I did not understand, why someone would even want to learn math,” Kohli was quoted as saying in a sports web-show, ‘In Depth with Graham Bensinger’. “I could not understand the complications.
“I could not fathom out the formulas and believe you me I have never used those formulas in life. “I just wanted to get through my 10th Grade exam, because they used to happen at a state-level and after that you could chose if you wanted to continue with math or not. I’m telling you, have never worked that hard in cricket the way I did to pass in that exam, so that I could avoid the subject forever,” Kohli added.
At present, however, statisticians all over the world have to revert to numbers the moment Kohli takes the crease as there will be always the chance of records being created. So Kohli who hated numbers and formulas in maths, is today viewed with awe after the number of runs he has scored.
Virat Kohli’s next assignment will be the home series against South Africa beginning September 15. India recently started their Test Championships campaign with a 2-0 series victory over the West Indies. He would certainly like the team to maintain the same winning streak.
