Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Tuesday granted conditional bail to former minister and BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra in connection with Banabira firing incident.
The HC granted the regular bail to Mishra on a surety of `50,000 and two bailers. However, the court has barred Mishra to go outside the state without prior permission from the lower court.
Conducting the final hearing of the case, Justice JP Das July 11 had reserved the verdict. Pleading for Mishra, senior lawyer Pitambar Acharya told the court that Padmapur police had tried to falsely implicate Mishra in the case as they did not have any concrete evidence in this regard.
Although there was no bullet injury on the body of Dileswar Sahu, driver of minister Sushant Singh’s brother, the police termed it as a murder due to firing.
Notably, Sahu was reportedly murdered near Banabira under Sohela block of Bargarh February 22 night (during Bijepur by-election). Padmapur police had arrested Jayanarayan March 15 for his alleged role behind the murder.
Jayanarayan complained of illness following the arrest and he was rushed to VIMSAR and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. However, he was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for better treatment. Jayanarayan had moved a lower court for bail, but his plea was rejected by the court following which he moved the HC.
The HC granted him interim bail till June 30 after which the former minister surrendered to the JMFC court at Sohela which sent him to judicial custody.
Jayanarayan moved the HC for regular bail citing health complications.

Bail for former Cong MLA, son
Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Tuesday granted bail to senior Congress leader and former MLA Yudhisthir Samantaray and his son Priyabrata Samantaray in a case in connection with a group clash at Pipli in Puri in January this year. The duo has to furnish two sureties and `25,000 for availing the bail. While hearing the bail plea July 11, Justice JP Das reserved the ruling. According to the case diary, both Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had observed a bandh in Pipli January 24 this year condemning the Kunduli gang-rape. Suddenly, a clash ensued between activists of the Congress and BJP. Later, BJP leader Asit Patnaik lodged a complaint with the police against 21 persons, including the father-son duo, for their alleged involvement in the violence. Advocate Bharati Das pleaded on behalf of the petitioner.
