Cuttack, June 8: Taking up a public interest litigation (PIL) alleging delay in repair of Jagamohan of Puri Srimandir, the Orissa High Court Wednesday issued notices to nine parties including the Union and state governments, and Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb.
A vacation bench of Justices BK Nayak and KR Mohapatra has directed the parties to submit detailed reports over the status of Jagamohan by June 22. A bench comprising Chief Justice would conduct the hearing of the case.
Abhisek Das of Telengabazaar in Cuttack had filed the PIL urging the court to direct the Centre and the state to take immediate steps to repair Jagamohan of the 12th Century shrine.
The petitioner urged the court to direct the governments to constitute an expert committee for protection of the temple.
Das informed the court that major cracks have appeared on the old structure which need immediate repair.
Besides, the petitioner urged the court to direct the government to tighten security of the shrine in view of terror threats to the temple.
The petitioner made secretary of archaeology, ancient monuments and culture, director of Archaeological Survey of India, superintendent of state archaeology department, Shri Jagannath Temple Administration, Chief Secretary, law secretary, Endowment Commission, the Gajapati Maharaja and Puri collector parties to the case.
