Sambalpur: The Hirakud reservoir’s water level crossed the 627-foot mark Thursday, prompting authorities to open two more sluice gates to control the release of excess water into the Mahanadi.
With the latest opening, a total of four sluice gates- three on the left side and one on the right side—are now releasing floodwater from the reservoir.
The water level stood at 627.29 feet, while the reservoir was receiving an average inflow of 1,41,962 cubic feet per second, according to the latest data.

The total outflow from the reservoir was recorded at 98,741 cusecs. Of this, 64,932 cusecs were being released through the four sluice gates.
Another 33,869 cusecs was being discharged through various canals, power channels for electricity generation and channels meant for industrial use.
