Hatadihi: Bhagirathi Kabi, the headmaster of Brahmanikala High School in Keonjhar district, has been absconding for over 45 days following allegations of misconduct towards a female student. A case (146/2025) was registered at Nandipada police station, after which Kabi fled evading his arrest.
Despite police efforts, he remains untraceable. Following a probe, a report has been submitted to the Education department as per the directive of District Education Officer Purnachandra Bariha, who has also sought an explanation from the accused. Local residents alleged that the school management committee, particularly its chairman Paramananda Behera, granted extended leave to the accused to shield him, citing close personal ties. Behera defended the leave as a “no work, no pay” arrangement and dismissed the allegations as baseless.
Kabi had filed for anticipatory bail in the Orissa High Court (Case No ABLAPL 6806/2025) May 30 but withdrew it June 20. On July 11, he reapplied, and the plea was registered July 17 (Case No. ABLAPL 8421/2025). No significant disciplinary action has been taken against Kabi, sparking public dissatisfaction. Police suggest questioning the committee chair could aid in locating the accused.
