Malkangiri, Dec 12: All men of Markaguda village under Padia block in this district Friday fled village fearing police arrest after gradual unraveling of the sensational honor killing case that rocked the district.
A couple in the village, who were in love, was stuffed in a sack alive after being brutally beaten up. Then the accused threw the sack into flowing Saveri river. The matter came to light Thursday after Dronapal police of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh recovered the bodies at a river ghat a few days back.
While all the men, fearing police action, vacated the village, the family members of the lovers described the ghastly incident before media Friday.
According to their account, the girl became pregnant after a physical relationship with her uncle. Following this, angry villagers held a meeting November 18 and drove them out of the village terming the relationship incestuous. However, the accused summoned them again after the couple took shelter in a nearby village. Reappearance of the two in village infuriated a few villagers and the two were severely beaten up after being paraded in the village in a humiliating manner.
The cruelty didn’t stop here. Not satisfied with their action, the accused tonsured the girl’s head and chopped her breasts. “They even inserted a stick into the genital of my minor daughter,” the girl’s mother said while narrating the level of brutality of the accused in Koya language. The accused also inflicted unmentionable torture upon the boy before stuffing the duo alive in a sack and throwing it in the river.
They didn’t inform police fearing the villagers, the family members of the deceased couple said, adding they identified the bodies after they were called by Chhattisgarh police.
On the other hand, the investigation is yet to make progress as Dronapal police have not yet handed over the case to local police, it was learnt. The families of the deceased are in a state of panic fearing attack on them by the accused, a report said.
