Hours before marriage family fights blazing fire

Kesinga: In a shocking incident, just a few hours before a marriage function a blazing fire broke out at a house and lapped valuables including gold ornaments and hard cash amounting to 2.5 lakh rupees.

The incident was reported from Budipadar village of Balisi Panchayat under Kesinga block in Kalahandi district.

The sehenai and the drums were tuned to their wedding beats and the house was donned in perfect rhythm. Everything was ready for the auspicious occasion.

Rituals were in progress since morning and the groom and his entourage was to leave for the bride’s place at 2 pm. The family members and everyone present gathered in the pooja room to seek blessings before they start the ceremony, they offered prayers and lit the ‘ceremony lamp’ which became their bane.

When the family members were busy getting ready for the rituals, the fire from the lamp first caught the ‘pooja’ room and before anybody could sense the horror, the blaze engulfed the whole house.

Kesinga fire station was informed of the incident, but due to the delay in service the family members and the villagers came forward and tamed the fire. Cash, ornaments, furniture, clothes and a number of other house hold items have been lost.
