Bhubaneswar: The annual High School Certificate (HSC) examinations for 2017 will be conducted from February 28, 2017, said School and Mass Education (S&ME) minister Debi Prasad Mishra here Wednesday.
The HSC exam, conducted by Board of Secondary Education (BSE), will continue till March 10, he said after a meeting of the Examination Committee of the board.
Over 6.12 lakh students are expected to take the exams for which they will have to fill the online form from the first week of November. The forms can be filled till November end.
The Controller of Examinations will release a detailed examination schedule in the first week of November.
Students were jittery over HSC exam dates as panchayat elections are expected to be held in February next year.
Keeping in view the upcoming panchayat elections, the exam schedule was finalised after an approval from the state government and discussions with the State Election Commission, said board president Sushant Kumar Das.
Clarifying on the issue, Mishra said, “In view of panchayat elections, the S&ME department had sought the board’s opinion about rescheduling of annual HSC examinations following which the board came up with this schedule.”
Giving more details about the schedule, Das said the annual Sanskrit Madhyama examination will also be conducted simultaneously with HSC exams.
Around 5,000 students will appear in the Sanskrit Madhyama examination.
Das further said around 50,000 teachers will be engaged in the evaluation of HSC answer sheets. “Efforts will be made to ensure proper evaluation of answer sheets,” he said.
Meanwhile, the S&ME minister said that in view of elections, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) has also decided to conduct the annual Plus Two examinations from March first week till the end of the month.
“The Council will prepare the detailed exam schedule in a meeting of the Examination Committee and announce it shortly,” the minister said.
