Tangi/Khurda, Sept 25: A special squad of Tangi police Friday seized eight quintals of explosives, two vehicles and arrested three criminals during raids at two places.
On a tip-off that a Tata Ace vehicle (OD 02- A 6071) was carrying explosives from Berhampur to Bhubaneswar on NH-16, Khurda superintendent of police Dillip Das directed Tangi police to intercept the vehicle.
As the team stopped the vehicle near Patharabandha at 11.30am, it found three quintals of explosives, 80 bundles of detonators, five quintal ammonium nitrate and 1,000 pieces of aluminium super plain detonators in the vehicle.
The police arrested Ranjan Badajena and Prashant Mohapatra of Malipada under Jankia police limits in this connection.
In another incident, the police raided an illegal crusher unit at Kaithapalla and seized 17 explosives, 81 packets of detonators, electric wires and 25 kg aluminium nitrate. They also arrested Jagabandhu Mangaraj of Kaithapalla in this connection.
Stating that the two separate cases have been registered in this connection the Khurda SP said the very same explosives are used by the Maoists.
