Vacationing in remote islands is a dream for everyone, however, there are some islands where human beings are barred from visiting. One such island is in Iceland, which was formed in the year 1963.
Located on the southern coast of Iceland, about 30 kilometers away, this small island is called Surtsey Island. It is one of the youngest islands in the world and is only 56 years old.
Surtsey Island was formed due to an underwater volcanic eruption. The molten lava accumulated and emerged as a mound, and November 14, 1963, the island was officially formed. According to Norwegian mythology, the island was named after Surtur, the god of fire.
A team of three French journalists stepped on its soil, but left shortly. After their departure, there was a terrible explosion on the island.
Many kinds of birds and animals live on this island, but humans are not allowed. Only a few scientists are permitted to visit the island after due investigation prior to their visit.
They are not allowed to bring any kind of seed on this island.
A few years ago, tomato plants started growing on this island, which even scientists were surprised to see.
However it was later removed from there. You will be surprised to know that this island is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This island is now used for scientific research. Actually, scientists here are trying to know how an ecosystem is formed without any human impact.
