Angul: For some people, medical science is secondary to superstitious beliefs about ailments. One such incident has been reported from the Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH).
A husband worried over the condition of his wife after a snake bite called a man practising black magic to the district hospital here Saturday to try his hand at saving the woman’s life.
The woman was Sabitri Dehury. She was bitten by a poisonous snake while sleeping at her house. Family members rushed her in a critical condition to the DHH. Rather than putting his confidence in the doctors, the husband sought to try the other way too. “He called in a black magic practitioner from Chhendipada area and performed some sorcery inside the hospital to cure her,” a hospital source said.
This irritated the DHH patients and their attendants. They alerted the hospital authorities about the black magician’s presence in the hospital ward. Sensing danger, he fled the spot.
CDMO Rabi Chandra Gadnaik said it was a case of trespassing. “We have tight security in the hospital but the man managed to enter by impersonating as an attendant. Surprise, he performed black magic inside the hospital,” the CDMO said.
