Bhubaneswar: Mustafa Hussain alias Papu, an associate of notorious gangster SK Hyder, was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch in Tirtol Tuesday in connection with an attempt to murder case in 2012.
This is the arrest of the sixth accused in this case. Hussain was produced in a court on Tuesday, said STF officials. Hussain and at least five other criminals had, in October 2012, opened fire indiscriminately at a car in which an estranged female friend of Hyder was travelling, they said. The, woman, however, managed to survive the attack.
“Salma Bibi, who was said to be in a relationship with Hyder, had allegedly betrayed him. Some of Hyder’s landed properties were registered in her name, and she was refusing to transfer ownership of those plots. The dreaded gangster had therefore asked his associates to kill her. A car in which Salma was travelling suffered indiscriminate firing near Kishannagar area October 12, 2012,” said an STF official.
A case against Hyder and his associates was registered at Kishannagar police station in this connection the same day. The matter was handed over to Crime Branch November 3, 2012.
Police sources said several cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion, etc., have been registered against Hussain in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts.
