Barang: Botanical Garden authorities are all set to commission a hydrophytes garden to attract visitors on the New Year’s Day. They have also initiated the process to renovate and expand the existing medicinal plant garden.
The state government has set up a butterfly park, carnivorous plants garden and picnic sheds at the Botanical Garden to attract more visitors.
“We had started work for the hydrophytes garden two months ago. The project will be ready by November-end,” said forest range officer and Botanical Garden in-charge Prasanta Kumar Panda.
Sources said the garden authorities have constructed altogether 45 artificial pools on 3,000 square foot land to set up the aquatic plants garden. It is leant that the garden officials have collected at least six varieties of hydrophytes, including lotus and lily, from the nearby Kanjia Lake. “We have arranged 15 types of hydrophytes from nearby places. Steps are being taken to bring four varieties of hydrophytes from Anshupa Lake and 10 more varieties from Bangalore,” Panda said.
According to sources, authorities have planned to construct an attractive gate near the hydrophytes garden and put up signboards near the artificial pools to provide details on the aquatic plants.
Similarly, authorities have expedited work on expansion of the existing medicinal plant garden. “The medicinal plant garden was set up on 2.6 acre land and it had altogether 46 types of plants. We have planned to add at least 24 more varieties to attract researchers. The state government has sanctioned `15 lakh for the project,” Panda said.
According to sources, the garden authorities have planned to collect medicinal plants from across the state to make the project a huge success.
