Malkangiri: Two SOG jawans were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast near Orapadar and Doldoli area under Mathili police limits in this district Saturday.

They were immediately airlifted for treatment in a helicopter.

Maoist involvement is suspected behind this act, though security agencies are yet to issue an official statement.

The team was returning from neighbouring Chhatisgarh after carrying out a combing operation when the incident occurred.

BSF and SOG jawans have been sent to the spot to intensify the combing operation.

Notably, five of the red rebels including three women were shot dead in a gun battle with security personnel Wednesday at Kituakanti jungle under Padua police station limits of Koraput district bordering Andhra Pradesh. This blast could have been planned to retaliate against the Wednesday operation.
