Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has chalked out a curriculum for training science teachers of junior and degree colleges of the state.
“We have already inked a memorandum of understanding with state government to train science teachers. The government is committed to uplift science education in the state and we will be happy to help in the initiative,” said IITBBS director RV Rajakumar.
Subject experts of the apex institute have already come up with a dynamic curriculum for the training of the teachers, Rajkumar told Orissa POST. “We will train the teachers in aspects ranging from the psychological to administrative and academic. They will also be given motivational lectures,” he said. The first set of classes will be held in December with the second set being held around March.
“The idea is to enthuse them and make them passionate about teaching. Many of our teachers do not indulge in continuous learning, which is an essential part of any education system,” said the director.
IIT-BBS has suggested that the state government pick teachers who show some interest in learning. The institute also plans to call resource persons from older IITs to help in the training. The state government has also picked the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) to train science teachers. “IIT and NISER are two of the premier institutes in our state. We thought their expertise could be utilised in better manner and thus decided to initiate this training session,” said an official of the higher education department.
