Malkangiri: Taking justice into their hands yet again, a mob was seen thrashing a married woman and a youth, tying them to a pole in full public view after the two was caught in a compromising position, Saturday.
The bizarre incident has been reported from MPV-47 village under Motu police limits in Malkangiri district today morning. The video of the woman being thrashed has been circulating social media and has gone viral after the incident.
Palpable tension prevailed in the village following the incident.
According to reports, the married woman was involved in an extra-marital affair with a youth of MV-83 village. The youth had gone to the woman’s house while her husband was out for work.
Locals found the two in a compromising position following which the villagers decided to take matter into their hands. The enraged mob subsequently dragged the two and tied them to a pole and brutally thrashed the two in full public glare.
On intimation, cops reached the spot, rescued the woman and began a probe in to the matter.
Though no complaint has been lodged in this connection, taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, police have registered a case stating that an investigation would be launched soon.
The accused woman and the youth are yet to comment on the issue.
Meanwhile, a section of people have condemned the incident alleging that villagers have no rights to take law into their hands.
“Instead of handing the two over to police, the locals assaulted them in public and later made a video of the incident that went viral on social media. Action should be taken against the mob,” said a villager.
