Puri: The Excise Department conducted raids in Balipatpur village under Krushnaprasad police limits in Puri and seized huge amount of illicit liquor. Three persons were arrested in connection with the case. A quintal of marijuana was also recovered in another such raid, where the police apprehended one person.
After receiving a tip-off, a special squad of the Excise Department raided Paika Sahi area and seized about 300 bottles of country-made liquor, 116 bottles of beer, 252 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and 10 litres of illicit distilled liquor Sunday. The liquor bottles were reportedly stored and hidden in boxes behind bushes in a field.
Last month, Excise officials busted an illicit liquor manufacturing unit operating inside an ashram near Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar.
With the rise in incidents of cash and liquor seizures in the state during elections, concerns are being raised over free and fair conduct of polls.
A few days ago, police unearthed an illicit liquor manufacturing unit in Soro and arrested one person.
