Cuttack: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Cuttack branch took out a rally and staged a sit-in Tuesday afternoon, in protest against the central government’s gazette notification which was issued last November 20 to merge ayurvedic and homeopathy with allopathy.

The IMA members marched from its branch office up to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) premises in Cuttack city. Hundreds of participating medical professionals put up banners written ‘No to Crosspathy; No to Mixopathy’, expressing their resentment.
“Gazette notification of the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) stated that ayurvedic and homeopathy will be merged with allopathy. Following such a merger and after imparting two years of professional training to future medical students, they will be able to conduct surgery in important departments like Gynecology, Orthopedics, ENT and Dental,” the IMA’s former secretary Dr Janmajeya Mohapatra said.
Public will be subjected to immense problems by this decision. Leaders who have taken the decision perhaps would not prefer to undergo surgery under the ayurvedic and homeopathy surgeons, Mohapatra stated.
“We have decided to close all the private hospitals coming December 12, leaving apart their emergency and COVID-19 services. The OPD service and routine operations will be stalled on the day. The future course of action will be taken by IMA at the central level. Whatever decision would be taken, we all will abide by. At any cost we won’t allow this decision taken by the central government,” he warned.
