Bhubaneswar: Starting from August 1, back to back low pressure formations over the Bay of Bengal have left various parts of Odisha battling with flood-like situations.
The IMD Monday issued a warning for another low-pressure which is likely to be formed over the Bay of Bengal between August 24 night to August 26.
For this, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner in a letter has asked all the districts’ collectors to be prepared for rescue and rehabilitation measures in view of heavy rainfall forecast as an effect of a low pressure in Bay of Bengal.

In a communication to the collectors of all districts, the SRC cautioned the districts facing heavy rainfall threat to keep the official machineries up and running to tackle any rain related disasters such as floods and landslides arising out of severe rains
F&ARD, all RDCs and ADG, law & order and IG, fire services, Commandant, NDRF 03 Bn, Mundali Executive Director (Admn.), OSDMA have also been warned by the SRC and they have been instructed to be prepared in order to meet any flood like situation or water logging in the areas.
The IMD Monday issued a warning for heavy rain and thunderstorm for several districts of the state valid till 8:30am of August 25.
In its afternoon bulletin, the centre said: “Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of North Odisha and at many places over the districts of South Odisha.”
IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings to several districts till 8:30am of August 25. People in these districts have been advised to stay indoors and take shelter in buildings during lightning as a precautionary measure.
Orange warning (be prepared):
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal.
The IMD also issued an alert for the above districts on water logging in low lying areas which may cause possible damages to kutcha houses and informal road.
Yellow warning (be updated):
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Puri, Kandhamal and Boudh.
